WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - St. Mary's Catholic School in Wilmington has reason to celebrate.

Principal Joyce Price stated Monday that the schools Science Olympiad Team placed first at the S.O. Regionals held at UNCW on March 10. The team then qualified to attend the State Science Olympiad Competition at NCSU on April 21.

At that event, Karen Brown, St. Mary's Science Olympiad coach, was honored in Reynolds Coliseum with an award for North Carolina Middle School Coach of the Year out of 225 coaches across our state.

Price stated that students and parents can nominate their coach and Brown was chosen this year based on the number of nominations and the passion of the stories that were written about her.

The team ended up placing 11th in the state out of 225 teams.
