SUNSET BEACH, NC (WECT) - Volunteers will help to preserve the shoreline using oyster shells.

The North Carolina Coastal Federation invites community members to help bag oyster shells at the Sunset Beach Fire Department Station One.

The volunteers will fill mesh bags with oyster shells to build a living shoreline at the town's park.

The bags protect the shoreline from erosion and create valuable habitat.

The bagging event is Wednesday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at near the Sunset Beach Waterfront Park.

Volunteers will be asked to cut, tie, lift and stack the shell bags.
