LELAND, NC (WECT) - Dreams came true for five student-athletes at North Brunswick High School on Thursday when they signed letters of intent.

Larry Akins played one year of basketball for the Scorpions and is off to Howard Community College in Maryland.

"I really like the coach. He is really strong with academics," said Akins. "He pushed academics first and basketball second."

Baseball player Joey Matthews is staying close to home to play at Brunswick Community College.

"I am really excited. I am really happy," said Matthews. "Thanks to my coaches and all my friends that pushed me."

Three softball players signed letters of intent. Madison Webb said she can't wait to get to West Virginia Wesleyan College

"It feels great. I can't wait to see what my next step is going to be like once I get to college," said Webb.

Brianna Harrelson will attend Southeastern Community College in Whiteville.

"It's a smaller school because I don't really like big places," Harrelson said. "I think it will give me a chance to play with the older girls."

Alleigh Himes will also stay in state at Winston Salem State University.

"This is a once in a lifetime thing," she said. "I like playing ball and I am ready."
