BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The search for a man who went missing from his church camp group at Singletary Lake State Park has now become a recovery effort.
Jesse Sgro, 23, has been missing since Saturday morning. Due to the length of time since Sgro went missing, the weather and the lack of any signs that Sgro left the lake, the focus has switched to recovering Sgro instead of finding him alive, according to Katie Hall with the NC Division of Parks and Recreation
Two teams were on the lake Tuesday morning using side-scan SONAR in the search.
The water search continued into deeper water toward the middle of the lake and in shallow water near the shoreline, Hall said. The shoreline search on land was discontinued because the dense brush made it unnavigable on foot.
More than 15 search and rescue support teams helped with the search Tuesday.
Hall said on Wednesday two boats with side SONAR and two dive teams will search the lake and more boats will be deployed to search the shoreline areas.
Sgro came to the park on Tuesday, April 3, with about 40 other people on a church retreat with River House Church based in Fayetteville, according to Stacy Long, a lead pastor.
Sgro was noticed missing at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, Hall said.
If anyone has any information on Sgro's whereabouts, call 911 or the Bladen County Sheriff's Office at 910-862-8141.
