Audit: Brunswick Community College failed to report student enrollment changes in a timely manner
Brunswick Community College failed to properly report a number of changes in enrollment, according to a state audit.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Brunswick Community College failed to report enrollment changes for a number of students who get federal financial assistance in a timely manner,
according to a state audit released Friday.

For the time period under audit, BCC handed out $2.2 million in federal aid to 670 students. The audit tested a sample of 120 students who changed enrollment while under that program and found more than one-third were not reported in a proper manner. The college is required to report those status changes to the National Student Loan Data System.  A failure to report accurately could impact Pell grant eligibility for the college.

According to the audit, BCC relied on the National Student Clearinghouse to report the changes but didn't monitor that third-party effort.

The college responded to the audit last November, stating that it agrees with the claims. The school has started a monthly internal report, which gets processed to the clearinghouse.
