WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A couple of old college roommates have struck a deal to play basketball at Trask Coliseum next year.  That deal means the UNCW men's basketball team will take on a traditional high profile team in college basketball -- the Stanford Cardinal.

UNCW men's basketball has inked a deal for a home and home series with Stanford, starting with the Cardinal visiting Trask Coliseum on November 9. UNCW will return the favor with a trip to California in the 2019-2020 season.

"We're excited about starting a home-and-home series with Stanford," said UNCW Head Coach C.B. McGrath in a news release. "They have an outstanding basketball program and are annually one of the top programs in America. Jerod (Haase) and I were college teammates and roommates, so I'm thankful that he's bringing the Cardinal to play in Trask Coliseum."

It'll be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Coach McGrath and Coach Haase played on the same Kansas team from 1994 to 1997.  Both also worked for UNC Head Basketball Coach Roy Williams for nine seasons.

UNCW has little experience with the Pac-12 in its history, with a 2-4 record against that league's teams.

Stanford finished this year 19-16, with eleven wins in the Pac-12. The Cardinal was eliminated from the NIT this year with a loss to Oklahoma State in the second round.
