BOLIVIA, NC (WECT) - A child accidentally shot a school bus with a BB gun in Bolivia on Thursday, officials announced Friday.

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Thursday a 911 call came in around 4 p.m. in reference to a possible shot being fired at a bus on Candlewood Court.

Superintendent Les Tubb and BCSO deputies responded and it was determined the shot came from a BB- or pellet-type gun.

Forty-four children and a driver were on board the bus and one child with a minor injury was assessed by EMS.

A window on the bus was damaged.

"We are grateful no students or staff were injured in the incident," Tubb said. "We also want to thank the BCSO for their quick investigation. Student safety on school buses is always priority."

BCSO officials said no charges will be filed in the case.

This is the second incident of this type to happen in Bolivia this year. An investigation into a Jan. 17 shooting revealed the shot came from a BB gun accidentally discharged by a child in the neighborhood near the intersection of Jones Street and Green Lewis Road.

The bus shot Thursday is not the same bus involved in the Jan. 17 incident.
