CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Town council members on Tuesday night approved a proposal to change the speed limit on part of North Lake Park Boulevard.
Town Council approved a resolution in January requesting the NC Department of Transportation reduce the speed limit on North Lake Park Boulevard, a state road, between just north of Access Road and Dow Road from 45 mph to 35 mph. Currently, the speed limit drops to 35 mph at the Dow Road and Lake Park Boulevard intersection.
Tuesday night's vote repeals the old DOT ordinance setting the speed limit at 45, and adopts the new one with the 35 mile per hour speed limit The town will send the new ordinance to the DOT for final approval.
The DOT will change the speed limit signs at no cost to the town, according to documents prepared for the agenda.
