CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Local donut shop Wake N Bake Donuts came up with a clever response to the toxic Tide pod challenge that has been going around the internet and putting kids and teens in the hospital.
They created their own Tide pod donut.
"I definitely didn't think we would make a Tide pod donut," said owner Danny Tangredi. "But I also didn't think people would eat Tide pods."
The donut was created by employee Caitlin Gschwind, who was bothered by the social media trend.
"I thought in a fun, joking way that we could tell people they shouldn't be eating Tide pods," said Gschwind.
While many thought it was funny, others did not. The post has thousands of reactions and comments on social media.
The donut does not contain any Tide laundry detergent. It's just a donut, so eat as many as you want.
In a post on the Wake N Bake Facebook page, it says one of the shop's "millennial employees, (Caitlin) decided to take a moment to teach the youth the difference between what to eat and what not eat."
The Tide pod donuts are available for special order, and will not be added to the regular menu.
