WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer's at Wrightsville Beach Park drew more than 600 participants to raise nearly $90,000 for Alzheimer's disease support, care, and research.
The 2.6 mile loop was open to people of all ages. Hundreds in purple shirts completed the walk.
One woman in attendance was walking for her mother, who has dementia, which is the broader category of cognitive impairment symptoms, which includes Alzheimer's Disease.
"My mother is living with us and she has dementia and so this is just something really important to me, and I think we need to do everything we can to raise money to try to help find a cure," said Annamarie Atwood.
Atwood said she hopes the awareness and funds raised Saturday will catalyze research for a cure.
