WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Beau Rivage Golf Course had some special four-legged visitors Sunday.

The course hosted a tournament benefiting Paws4People, a nonprofit that places assistance dogs with disabled veterans and civilians.

The golf course said about $20 of the $75 registration fee went to Paws4People, and the rest paid for golf fees.

According to the group, without fundraisers like this one throughout the year, they'd have a hard time operating.

"Our dogs are worth about $60,000 each, so we really rely on donors and sponsors and different types of fundraising events to help us to raise that amount of money to keep on placing these dogs with our clients," Paws4People Program Manager Sam Cleary said.

Six teams competed in the golf tournament, totaling 24 people.
