WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Glamor and camping are two things that typically don't go together. Until now.

Ian and Kristi Balding recently created a glamping experience in an Airstream trailer that they rent out on Airbnb.

Glamping is a combination of glamor and camping.

Ian, who operates a company that makes surfboards, bought the 1961 trailer about seven years ago to store supplies in.

He recently fixed it up so that he could use it as a mobile surf retail shop.

Adventurous camping has always been a passion for the two and they already had the trailer so eventually they turned it into a glamping experience and even more recently started advertising it on Airbnb for others to enjoy the experience as well.

The two will tow the trailer to events and festivals as the mobile retail shop, then transform it when someone rents it out for glamping.

It takes them less than an hour to transform the trailer.

Kristi said that with all that is going on in the world right now it's nice to have something fun like this to look forward to.

They both feel that this is a trend for everyone to enjoy, even those who don't like stress of camping.

"I've found that everybody is attracted to this thing, whether they want to camp or not," Ian said. "The people that would probably rent this would be more of the adventurous type, but they don't necessarily have to love camping because it's set up for them already. So that's kind of the beauty of it, is you can literally just roll up and camp for the weekend."

The two will bring the trailer to most locations and camp grounds in and around the Wilmington area and Carolina Beach. They said if a person has a space of land where they have permission for the trailer to be, they will bring it there as well.
