WARM helps stroke victim make necessary home repairs
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, also known as WARM, is at it again.
This week, WARM and the women of the N.C. Sorosis Society are helping a family in downtown Wilmington make much-needed home repairs.
"This case is really special for us," said J.C. Lyle, executive director of WARM. "The homeowner has had a series of strokes. He and his wife live at the home together. She takes good care of him, but since his illness, he is unable to make any home repairs."
About a dozen volunteers with several women's clubs were at the property on 13th Street doing a number of renovations including new flooring, new paint, and fresh gardening.
"Volunteers are the lifeline of WARM. We couldn't do any of this without them, " Lyle said. "Seventy percent of our cases we serve are female heads of households, so this week is special because there are so many female volunteers on this project and it sort of gives them a great sense of empowerment."
Repairs will continue throughout the week with the goal of being finished by Friday.
