WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A couple of new restaurants near the growing riverfront marina in downtown Wilmington will be able to open in time for events surrounding the Wells Fargo Golf Championship next month, despite not having a requirement complete for public restrooms.
City Council will vote on a resolution Tuesday that would give the operators of the area the ability to open the restaurants without completing a public restroom component that was part of the original approved plans between the city, Pier 33 and Northern Riverfront Marina and Hotel. NRMH has booked six events for the upcoming PGA tournament event at Eagle Point Golf Club beginning May 1 under the assumption that the project would have been complete by now. To date, Pier 33 has yet to break ground on the public restroom facility.
The golf tournament is expected to bring in large crowds the entire week.
The proposed Memorandum of Understanding will modify the plans to include public restrooms in one of two new facilities that are expected to be constructed over the next three years.
In the meantime, the operators will set up temporary public restrooms. Until those are set up, the public will be able to use the facilities inside the restaurants.
BlackFinn AmeriPub and Vida Restaurant will both operate in the area once the requirements are completed.
