WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The NC Coastal Federation is organizing a volunteer cleanup of the rain gardens and stormwater wetlands located at Alderman Elementary School on Friday. A similar event will be held next Wednesday, March 29, at Bradley Creek Elementary School.

Both are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The projects are part of the Bradley and Hewletts Creeks Watershed Restoration Plan.

Rain gardens filter runoff water before it goes into creek. This helps protect water quality and prevents swim advisories and shellfish closures.

Rain gardens also help to reduce hazardous flooding and provide wildlife habitat.

The NC Coastal Federation needs volunteers for both events. If you're interested in helping with the projects, click here.
