WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Students at UNCW came together Sunday for "hackathon," an event where they used modern day technology to help find solutions to problems.

There are problems in the world that require the use of science. Students at UNCW have the information and knowledge to help fix those problems.

Students worked in teams of five and six and presented their projects this afternoon at UNCW's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

"The things we are working through right now are really important so tying that into an educational standpoint is great, because a lot of times in class your working on this stuff your reading these texts books. When am I ever going to use this? Like, how is the really applicable to industry? And this weekend and working with these mentors was just amazing," said graduate science student Zachary Krepps.

Zachary and his team focused their project around monitoring aquariums.

GE Nuclear and NC Biotech sponsored today's events.
