NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Goldsboro woman accused of not notifying officials about the death of her mother, who was found deceased in a freezer, has been arrested in New Hanover County.

According to jail records, Marcella Jean Lee, 56, was arrested in the 1500 block of Bridge Barrier Road in Carolina Beach Thursday.

WNCN reported that Lee's mother, Arma Ann Roush, was found dead in a chest freezer on May 27 after Lee allegedly sold the appliance for $30 to one of her mother's neighbors in Goldsboro.

Lee told the neighbor not to open the freezer because it was being used as a time capsule for a class project she was doing at church, WNCN reported. Lee said the church would come and collect the items inside, but they never showed.

The buyer eventually opened the freezer and immediately alerted police.

The medical examiner listed the cause of Roush's death as unknown and said there were no signs of foul play, WNCN reported. Goldsboro police issued felony warrants for Lee on June 2.

Lee is charged with concealing/failure to report a death and was booked in the New Hanover County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
