Donations flood in for boy mowing lawns
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Tyran Bell posted on his mother's Facebook a few days ago, asking to mow lawns so he could pay for his school supplies.
"He's 10 years old. And for a 10-year-old to take that initiative and want to help his mom because she was struggling, I just thought that was amazing," said A1 Security Services LLC President Theresa Babb.
Bell's hard work has paid off. He now has enough supplies for the school year and plenty left over, but his work isn't done.
He wants to give the rest back to the community.
"I'm gonna put them in bags and go around the community and pass them out to whoever needs school supplies," stated Bell.
Tara Lewis, Bell's mother, posted two new Wilmington drop off locations, explaining Tyran wants to package donations from the new locations and hand them out to kids in the area.
Babb and her staff are also looking for ways to give away extra donations from their drive. Babb said they are speaking with social workers to see which local schools have a serious need for supplies.
"You've got these kids going to school and they are going with other kids who have all their nice new supplies to school and they show up with nothing," added Babb. "They are starting the year badly there, plus you don't want them to feel bad. Plus it's like sending a carpenter out to work without a hammer."
