Altercation outside of mini mart leads to shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A dispute between a clerk and a man begging for money outside of a mini mart led to a shooting late Tuesday night.
According to Wilmington Police Department officials, a man allegedly was begging for money in front of a store in the 4200 block of Birchwood Drive shortly after 11 p.m.
A store clerk asked the man to leave, and when he refused, the clerk went back into the store and retrieved a gun.
When the clerk went back out to confront the man in front of the store, a physical confrontation took place between the two.
Another man picked up the gun and shot the man who had been begging in the leg.
The shooting victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center by EMS with non-life threatening injuries while the clerk was taken to Cape Fear.
The man who fired the gun was detained by police and brought in for an interview.
The WPD still is investigating the incident.
