NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Support the Port Foundation is expected to hold an event on June 24 to help New Hanover County citizens with a criminal background take positive steps forward.
The idea of "Fresh Chance Friday" is to direct attendees to career development programs, give them an opportunity to speak to prospective employers, and to educate them on the process in determining eligibility for an expunction.
The event will take place at Morning Glory Coffee House, located at 1415 Dawson Street, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
There will be a panel discussion with ex-offenders from the community who are working obtaining degrees, starting businesses, etc.
New Hanover County's NAACP will be on site with representatives, and will be registering citizens to vote.
Prospective employers who will be in attendance are: Youngblood Staffing, Billy Ray's Family Restaurant, Linc, Home Depot, Phoenix Hometown Hires, and more.
Lawyers from The Law Office of Brett Wentz and Leeanne Quattrucci Law Firm are expected to be at the event.
