WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - After five years of waiting, crews will break ground on a new project at the library located in downtown Wilmington.
According to New Hanover County Library Director Harry Tuchmayer, a story park is coming to the Main Library located at 201 Chestnut Street in Wilmington.
"Story Park will provide an outdoor learning environment connected to the library with native plants, Story Walks, interactive musical instruments and demonstration gardens," said Tuchmayer.
The Library Advisory Board came up with the idea back in October 2009.
"Our goal has always been to extend the library experience into the adjacent outdoor space, and monies from the 2006 parks bond made this a possibility," said Tuchmayer.
Library staff has been trying to think of ways to extend the library experience into the adjacent outdoor space. Now, funding from the 2006 parks bond will make that a reality.
Tuchmayer said New Hanover County commissioners approved the project last summer and Wilmington City Council approved it at the end of last year.
Construction is set to begin next week. The park is slated to open in late September.
