WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) - Firefighters in Whiteville extinguished a fire Monday afternoon at the Go Green Recycling Center on Canal Street.

According to Hal Lowder, fire marshal for Whiteville, an employee called just after noon to report a fire in the recycling yard. The yard contained cardboard items as well as plastic bails and other items.

Emergency crews responded and quickly put out the fire. No one was injured in the incident.

Lowder said no buildings on the premises were damaged, however a privacy fence between another pieces of property was destroyed.
