UNCW goes 'mad' for multi-media production

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW's Department of Theatre is closing out is 2015-2016 season with a production that brings together live theatre and film production.

The students are performing Mad Forest which revolves around the days leading up to and after the Romanian revolution in 1989.

The first and third acts are dramatic fictions. The second act is based on interviews conducted by the playwright and a group of Romanian students.

UNCW alumna Yana Birykova, who is originally from Russia, is collaborating as a guest artist for projections. She is currently pursuing an MFA from the Yale School of Drama in Projection Design.

The UNCW Department of Film Studies will also provide live video to the production.

"The beauty about doing this show in this day and age is that with time comes perspective," director Ed Wagenseller said in a news release. "We have discovered mountains of footage and images from the period that not only helps our research but assists in telling this important story."
