Assisted living resident charged with manslaughter, after another resident dies

LELAND, NC (WECT) - One man is dead after an altercation between two men at an assisted living home in Leland Saturday afternoon.

Deputies were called to respond to Leland Assisted Living House at 5:30 p.m. in reference to an assault between two residents.

According to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, a resident was pointing and waving a cane at the accused offender, William Almon King.

King asked the other resident to stop. When he did not, King hit the man, who fell to the floor and hit his head, causing him to lose consciousness.

The injured man was taken to New Hanover Medical Center where he died the next day. It was determined he had massive bleeding on the brain.

King was arrested and charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury. A separate charge, involuntary manslaughter, was added on Sunday.
