HARRISONBURG, Virginia – Senior guard Shatia Cole and junior guard Jasmine Steele combined to score 25 points, but it was not enough as UNCW dropped a 60-40 Colonial Athletic Association decision against defending CAA champion James Madison on Sunday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center.
The win allowed the Dukes to improve to 14-5 overall and 7-1 in the CAA while the Seahawks dropped to 6-14 overall and 2-7 in league play.
Senior guard Jazmon Gwathmey led James Madison to the victory by posting her second double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds. She made 9 of 22 shots from the floor, including a 2-for-7 effort from three-point range, while converting four of six free throws as James Madison earned its seventh straight victory.
Sophomore guard Hailee Barron added 14 points for the Dukes, including a 4-for-10 performance from three-point range. Freshman center Kayla Cooper-Williams contributed 10 rebounds while scoring eight points.
Senior guard Shatia Cole paced UNCW by scoring 13 points, including nine points in the fourth quarter. She shot 6-for-13 from the field and added four rebounds. Junior guard Jasmine Steele tallied 12 points while junior forward Jordan Henry posted a team-high 10 rebounds.
