HAMLET, NC (WECT) - A Pender County woman died in a double-fatal collision on Hwy. 74 near Hamlet last week.
According to Sergeant Michael Baker of the State Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Thursday, Jan. 21.
Baker says a preliminary investigation determined that a vehicle driven by Belva Farnam Maddox, 77, of Charlotte, was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 74 at approximately 7:28 p.m. when she collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Angela Monday Fisher, 55, of Currie.
Both drivers were killed as a result of the collision.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Baker says.
According to an obituary listed on Andrews Mortuary's website, Fisher was the chief nursing officer at Brunswick Novant Medical Center.
Fisher's funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Silver Lake Baptist Church.
