Authorities looking for man impersonating patrolman

SNEADS FERRY, NC (WECT) - Authorities are looking for a man who has stopped motorists in Sneads Ferry twice in three days while impersonating a North Carolina Highway patrolman.

According to a post on the Onslow County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the suspect is described as tall and is his late 20s or early 30s. He is driving a dark Dodge Charger with a large antenna on top and flashing blue lights in the front grill. The man was reported wearing a baseball-style cap with a N.C. Highway Patrol patch and a black jacket.

According to reports, the suspect pulled over women on Monday and Wednesday.

The sheriff's office posted the following safety tips on Facebook:

  • In the event you are stopped by an unmarked car and it appears suspicious, you should call 911.
  • If someone tries to stop you, continue driving until you are in a well-lit area such as a gas station or an open business.
