Wilmington native Meadowlark Lemon dies

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington native and longtime Harlem Globetrotter, Meadowlark Lemon, died Sunday at 83.

According to the New York Times, Cynthia Lemon, his wife, confirmed her husband's death. He lived in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Lemon played basketball and football at Williston High School in Wilmington. He joined the Globetrotters in 1954 after leaving the army.

Lemon was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1975.
