SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - A study conducted by GunsAndAmmo.com shows that almost 40 percent of women bought at least one gun within the last 12 months.
With all of the mass shootings lately, women are on edge and want to get their concealed carry permits.
"I don't plan to be easy with my concealed firearm," Gun owner Nancy Adelis said. "I won't use it unless I feel that I am in a deadly situation."
"The goal is to never have to pull my gun," Cristina Ensalata said. "I know it's there though, so if I get into a bad situation, I know I am protected."
That's why more women seem to be buying guns today.
"Guns don't kill people, criminals kill people," Deb Lipsen said, "So if a criminal with a gun approaches me, I want to make sure I am able to save myself."
Gun clubs all across the state offer concealed carry classes.
The Ye Olde Gun Club of Southport has a membership offering the classes. You can go to www.yeoldegunclub.com to make your appointment today.
