Weekend Watch: Holiday Flotilla, "SantaLand Diaries," and the Festival of Trees

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Thanksgiving is now OVER, which means it's time to immediately start celebrating the next holiday: Christmas! It may still be November, but there's plenty going on around town to get you in the holiday spirit.

On Friday at 5:45pm, the town of Wrighstville Beach will kick off the weekend with a tree lightning ceremony followed by the Atlantic Marine Holiday Flotilla Launch party at the Blockade Runner, which features live music, an auction, and hors d'oeuvres. Tickets to that event are $30. Then, on Saturday, the Festival in the Park gets underway from 10am to 4pm at Wrightsville Beach Park. Then, at 6pm, the flotilla officially begins, followed by fireworks around 7:30.

Over in Wilmington, you can head to the Red Barn Studio Theatre to check out "The SantaLand Diaries." The long-standing Wilmington tradition returns starring Anthony David Lawson as Crumpet the Elf, who is less than thrilled to be working at Macy's during the holiday season. It runs November 27th-29th, December 4th-6th, and Dec. 11th-13th. Tickets are normally $15, but on Friday the 27th, they're cut to just $7.50 as part of Black Friday. Better than standing in line in the cold for a TV or something, isn't it?

And at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, you can take part in the Cape Fear Festival of Trees, organized by the Lower Cape Fear Hospice. It runs November 23rd to December 6th, and features at least 25 uniquely decorated trees throughout the building. Tickets prices range from $8.95 to $10.95, but children 2 and younger get in free, and group of more than 10 are eligible for a discount.
