First Fruit Ministries holding Feast for the Homeless
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away and some organizations are already getting into the holiday spirit.
First Fruit Ministries is going to be giving back Tuesday night to those who are less fortunate by hosting its annual Feast for the Homeless. Rick Stoker, the CEO of the ministry, said they served over 100 homeless people during the feast in 2014.
After seeing the impact they had, he said they've decided to keep the tradition going.
"We want to do something really class act for them," Stoker explained. "When you treat these guys that are living in the woods like they matter, it's a big deal you and I don't really get because we do this every day."
Like last year, Stoker said they are renting vans and driving to places like the New Hanover County Public Library and Salvation Army to pick up those who are less fortunate and taking them to their feast.
Stoker said Tuesday night's meal is not about giving these men and women just one solid meal. He said it's an opportunity to talk to them one on one to see how they can better serve their needs in the community.
"We cater to them we give them toiletries, clothes," he listed. "We will find out what they need and be asking questions like, 'What can we do better with them, and what do they think about our schedules for them?'"
First Fruit Ministry will be picking up people at the New Hanover County Library and Salvation Army starting at 5:00 p.m. The Feast for the Homeless starts at 6:30 p.m.
