WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The College Acres neighborhood is filled with both students and residents, but lately some of the residents have noticed an increase in theft and vandalism.
"Mailboxes have been vandalized," said resident Sandra Privette. "They've been run into and destroyed by vehicles, they've been purposefully knocked down with baseball bats, and they've been ripped off their posts and discarded"
Police say that with Halloween coming up, they will be conducting extra patrols around the College Acres area, but urge you to call if you notice anything suspicious.
"We are always on the lookout," said Officer Riley of the Wilmington Police Department. "However, we can only respond to the calls we get. If you have a problem, call us."
Police will continue to monitor the area, but say a lot of the vandalism could be happening later at night, after parties end. Riley says police will do their best to put a stop to the problem.
