Large shark teeth wash up along NC beaches after recent coastal storms

NORTH CAROLINA (WECT) - You might want to keep your eyes on the sand the next time you take a walk on the beach.

Large shark teeth have been found in abundance by several beach-goers after recent coastal storms and higher than normal tides.

NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher fossil experts say the biggest of the treasures found are Megalodon teeth, which are millions of years old.

The teeth have been found in record amounts since the beginning of October from Surf City to North Topsail Beach.

Experts say diving tours are common along the Carolina coasts to search for these rare finds, but it's always a treat to find one washed up onshore.

You can even buy your own Megalodon tooth, but you'd have to pay a pretty penny. These fossils can be found online for upwards of $300 in some cases.
