Manna Ministries food pantry touching hundreds of lives
LELAND, NC (WECT) - With the rain subsiding Saturday morning, Manna Ministries served food to over 100 Brunswick County families in Leland as part of their monthly food drive.
Grace Ablaze began the morning serving hot breakfast, with a line that formed hours before the food drive began.
Those in need received vegetables, rice, bread, meat, and more.
"We have a mission here to feed the needy in the community," said Jay Merritt, a pastor and organizer of Manna Ministries. "It is a Christian, God-based mission, and we're not apologizing for any of that."
Dozens of churches and community members consistently donate to the drive. Along with food, Merritt noted that Manna aims to help those beyond the scope of just a few meals.
"We also like to give out media, which is self-improvement from the religious side of things, where people can actually get real change," Merritt said. "At the beginning of each of our distributions we have a prayer circle, where the entire community comes together."
He shared that within two hours they served 118 families.
Merritt estimated over 1,000 pounds of meat were distributed Saturday.
