NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - An area business owner is donating hundreds of instruments to a New Hanover County middle school.
National Pawn owner Bob Moulton is donating more than 200 instruments to the middle school band program at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy.
National Pawn will also present a check for $2,000 to the school district to off-set future repair and maintenance costs for their instruments.
Moulton said he knows first hand what it's like to not have the opportunity to participate in music classes.
"It's important to give back to the community, but mainly it goes back to deep personal roots. When I was in the seventh grade I wanted to be in the band, but my parents really it was a struggle to buy me a new instrument it was a struggle for them. And so my mother ended up buying a beat up trumpet at a yard sale for $15, and I played that," Moulton reminisced.
He collects instruments in his pawn shops across the state to make sure students have a chance to play in the band.
