Former 'American Idol' Scotty McCreery performs new single at River Landing in Duplin County

WALLACE, NC (WECT) - Former American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, surprised an audience in Wallace Monday night with a premiere performance of his new single.

McCreery released Southern Belle at midnight Sunday and sang it publicly for the first time Monday night at River Landing.

The country music star was in Duplin County for the Scarlet and Gold Invitational Tournament at River Landing.

The three-day event, which started Sunday and continues through Tuesday, benefits Hope for Warriors. The organization helps marines and their families when they return from overseas.

Food Lion presented a check for $165,720.31 Monday night to the group from money raised at 19 stores in North and South Carolina.

McCreery won the tenth season of American Idol on May 25, 2011.

The country crooner is no stranger to North Carolina. He grew up in Garner.
