COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A home built by carpentry students at West Columbus High school will be auctioned Wednesday.

The 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home took two years to complete. The 1,536 square-foot-house features custom-built cabinets.

Principal Jeff Greene said the project gives students a sense of accomplishment and valuable skills.

"You can tell a student all day long how to do something, but once they do it hands-on, they're able to back off and see what they completed," Greene said. "It makes sense. It has some relevance to it then."

The live auction will start at 10 a.m. at the high school in Cerro Gordo.
