WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity will be returning to the campus of UNC Wilmington.
University officials say an agreement between UNCW and the Alumni Commission of Sigma Alpha Epsilon was signed on Wednesday.
The national SAE organization sent the local chapter a cease and desist order in 2012 after complaints and underage drinking violations. UNCW followed with its own suspension.
The fraternity's supreme council voted earlier this year to allow UNCW's chapter to return, but it gave the charter to approved alumni who will oversee operations, according to Blaine Ayers, SAE's executive director.
Ayers said the national fraternity has created a "plan for success" for the local chapter that includes requiring all members and advisors to complete an alcohol awareness program. UNCW's chapter must also create a health and safety plan, including social-event policies and a crisis management plan.
