WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Every week, we place our full garbage cans roadside. We pick them up hours later, empty and ready to be filled up all over again. It might be an out of sight, out of mind routine, but the week of June 17, 2015 is set aside to celebrate the men and women who deal with our stinky messes.
"National Garbage Man Day celebrates trash collectors, garbage haulers, sewage workers, street cleaners and just about anyone who does the dirty jobs that we would rather not do ourselves," according to the website GarbageManDay.Org.
Although the holiday doesn't begin on "Trash Truck Tuesday," Wilmington's 4-year-old Greyson is still planning to make this day extra special for his buddies, Mr. Rob and Mr. Daniel by paying them a visit.
"Happy National Garbage Man Day to all of the great men and women out there!" Greyson's mother Rebekah Swain wrote on their Facebook page. "Thank you for your hard work in keeping our world a beautiful and clean place! We can't wait to go find Mr. Rob and Mr. Daniel later this afternoon! Appreciate your trash men and share the love!"
Wednesday, June 17 is all about remembering to thank your local trash men, bake them cookies, give them a friendly high-five or leave them a tip just to show you care.
