WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The University of North Carolina Wilmington raised nearly $190,000 in gifts and pledges during it's "Give More in 24" campaign. This is the school's second year doing a 24-hour giving challenge.
The goal of "Give More in 24" was to raise $133,801 in 24 hours, in order to secure an additional gift of $48,000.
"We are overwhelmed by the generous support we have received from UNCW alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends," said Eddie Stuart, Vice Chancellor for university advancement. "The community has illustrated their continued commitment to the university and our efforts to provide students with the best opportunities available."
Last year, donors gave $133,800 during UNCW's first-ever challenge of this kind and received a $24,000 gift. Given the campaign's success, UNCW's Division for University Advancement aimed to raise more money, and they did.
The campaign launched at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24. The university is still tallying gifts. Final numbers will be released when available.
