WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Family and friends of Dillon Ray Morris gathered at the parking lot of Everybody's grocery store Tuesday night for a vigil in his memory.
"My son really looked up to him," said family member Samaria Delts, "I just really appreciated having him in my life."
The vigil started on Greenfield Street, traveled down 11th street and ended at the ravine where Morris' body was found on Saturday.
His family is wondering how his life ended as a homicide. Investigators said Morris died of a gunshot wound.
"I never thought this would have happened," said Delts. "So soon."
His family said Morris loved people and loved when people loved him.
His funeral will be held at the end of the week.
