WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officials with the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority are warning residents of a scam involving a survey being conducted by the "City of Wilmington Water Department."
According to CFPUA, a victim contacted them a week ago and said someone representing the "City of Wilmington Water Department" asked for help to complete a survey. The survey asked for personal information from the victim and the victim participated.
Officials say the victim was informed Monday that they were selected to receive a $1,000 prize based on their participation in the survey. The scammers claimed that they would personally deliver the prize Monday evening.
CFPUA officials say this is a scam and there is no "City of Wilmington Water Department" and that they are not conducting any surveys.
The victim was advised to contact local law enforcement and the matter has been reported to the Attorney General's Office.
