Student arrested in connection to social media bomb threat

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A South Brunswick High School student was arrested Friday in connection to making a false bomb threat to his school using the social media app "Yik Yak."

Brunswick County Sheriff's deputies arrested Richard Christopher Patton on charges of communicating a false bomb report in a public building. He was placed in the Brunswick County Detention Facility under a $10,000 bond.

Patton has since posted bond and been released.

According to arrest records Patton posted the following message on "Yik Yak."

"Bomb at South today. Watch out!"

Since the threat the Brunswick County School System has begun work to block the app's use in schools.
