WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Renovations are complete and the ribbon has been cut. The City of Wilmington's municipal golf course is officially open to play.
Redesigned bunkers, double sized greens, improved sloping, larger fringe areas, new cart paths and new signage are some of the highlights of the new and improved city golf course.
The golf pro at the course believes this is the most challenging municipal golf course in the country. He said many long time players will be shocked when they see what the course has become.
Reservations for tee times started earlier this week, and according to City of Wilmington officials, tee times for Thursday filled up quickly.
The $1.5 million renovation project began in April and was the first total restoration of the Donald Ross designed course since it was fully completed in 1929.
According to Wilmington officials, about 60,000 rounds of golf are played on average on the course each year.
