Officials say lightning struck the roof of the church shortly before noon on Sunday during the middle of a church service.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A pianist is recovering from minor injuries after a lightning strike hit Zion Hill Baptist Church in Bolivia, causing shockwaves through the electrical wiring in the building.

According to Chief John Eeten with the Sunset Harbor and Zion Hill Fire Department, the piano player was treated on scene by EMS personnel and did not need to be taken to the hospital.

Eeten said the lightning struck the roof of the church shortly before noon on Sunday during the middle of a church service.

According to Eeten, the church suffered minor electrical damage but no structural damage.

Nobody else was injured and the pianist is expected to be okay.
