WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A work van burst into flames threatening an apartment building in the Mayfaire area Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened at 648 Village Park Road. The fire destroyed the van, which is a complete loss, but only caused minor damage to the surrounding structures, according to Randy Burton with the Wilmington Fire Department.
Burton attributes the minor exterior damage to the apartment building to a working exterior sprinkler system, that kept the flames at bay until fire crews arrived to extinguish it.
The fire is out at this time, and an investigation is underway as to what caused it to start.
