CAMPE LEJEUNE, NC (WECT) - The Highway Patrol has identified the two Camp Lejeune Marines who were found dead inside a submerged vehicle, according to WITN.

WITN reports PFC Skyler Way, 19, from Gouverneur, New York, and Lance Corporal Nicholas Buscarnera of Mastic Beach, New York, were found Tuesday night in Craven County.

The two were found at 10:25 p.m. inside a vehicle submerged in a canal along Catfish Lake Road. WITN says the dirt road is a popular shortcut between Jacksonville and Havelock but is "off limits" to Marines because of safety concerns.

U.S. Forestry Officer Steve Barrette said the Marines had not been heard from since Monday night.

According to WITN, investigators believe speed may have been a factor in this fatal wreck.

The incident is still being investigated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The Marine Corps said they were both members of the 2nd Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 25 at Camp Lejeune.
