ELON, NC (WECT) - A third of those living in North Carolina plan to spend less money on the holidays this year, according to a poll released Monday by Elon University.
46% percent say they'll spend the same amount as last season, while 20% plan to increase their spending on holiday gifts.
The annual poll showed four out of ten respondents think the economy is going to get worse in the next year, with a third believing it will improve.
Of those shoppers among us, 33% percent plan to shop on line for Cyber Monday, compared to 26% who plan to hit the stores on Black Friday. 11% plan to shop both days.
The big ticket items this year are electronics of course. 17% named a video game or video game console as a top gift choice.
Elon researchers interviewed 732 residents of the state between November 15th and 18th. The poll has a margin of error of 3.64 percentage points.
