The driver of a vehicle that led authorities on a chase Sunday and that carried a wanted suspect has been arrested and charged, officials with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office say.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The driver of a vehicle that led authorities on a chase Sunday and that carried a wanted suspect has been arrested and charged, officials with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office say.

Vincent Joyner has been charged with accessory after the fact and speeding to elude after authorities chased the vehicle he drove into a neighborhood near Fulbright Road and Carl Seitter Drive. Brandon Smith, the car's passenger, then ran into a wooded area, where officials say he was shot and killed.

Smith had been wanted following a shooting Thursday involving a detective.

Joyner remains in jail under a $500,000 bond, and is scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
