Caught on Camera: Suspect breaks into shop

WILMINGTON, NC - (WECT) - Surveillance video captured one person breaking into Alman Gifts on Wednesday night, now the owner is urging others to be careful.

Troy says he's lucky he installed cameras throughout the inside and outside of his store, located on Carolina Beach Road. They captured the suspect walking around the building before finally climbing into the stores window after reportedly breaking it.

In the video you can see the suspect rush around the store looking for something, before finally stopping at the cash register. The store's owner says he didn't take any money, and then you see the suspect run out.

Troy says he believes the ringing alarm made the suspect leave so quickly, he says he's glad he invested in the alarm and the video cameras. Now, he's urging other business owners to do the same, explaining it can help police catch those responsible.

He says there was another attempted break in two weeks ago, and with a string of robberies happening recently in the Port City he worries it could happen again.

"It's tough," said Troy. "We are trying to make a living and the economy is rough, then we get people they come want to take what we work hard for."

He says if other business owners or homeowners see suspicious activity they should speak out. He is also asking anyone that recognizes the suspect in the video to contact the police department.
